This Is Our Story

Weaving Horizontal.jpg

The village of Amaru is one of ten Highland communities nestled amongst the mountains above Pisac and the Sacred Valley, sitting at 11,600ft elevation. Asociación Quantus Tika is a family owned and operated business run out of their ancestral home in Amaru. Daughter and manager Lucia was born and raised here in the village, learning traditional farming and weaving from her parents and grandparents. In spite of the economic hardship of living in the rural high andes, Lucia has chosen to stay and raise her children in Amaru. In addition to running Asociación Quantus Tika, she teaches weaving at a local school, works with a cooperative of women making and selling handwoven textiles, as well tending to the fields. Her family grows heritage varieties of potatoes, fava beans, corn, oca, mashua, garden vegetables, and raises sheep and guinea pig. At home she stills speaks the local language of Quechua with her parents and children, as well as peaking Spanish in her work and teaching.

Asociaion Quantus Tika offers hands-on cultural experiences in and around the Andean highland community of Amaru. Learn about traditional textile production, agricultural practices, and hike the stunning mountains and lakes of the area.

A day visit or home stay in Amaru offers you the chance to be welcomed into Lucia’s parents home, where meals are prepared from ingredients harvested from the garden and fields around the village and cooked on a traditional wood-fired adobe stove. It allows you to step away from the major tourist attractions into traditional Andean culture. Perhaps most importantly it supports families like Lucia’s, allowing them to preserve their traditions and culture for future generations. All arrangements are made directly through the family, and all income from your stay stays with the family.

Come for a day visit or a multi-day homestay and take home unforgettable memories from off the beaten path.
